We were so lucky to get to spend two weeks at the cabin this
year and because we were staying so long we decided to take the dogs with us.
I was not excited about this at all concerned
about how they would travel, how they would get along with my MIL's two dogs,
and whether they would be a pain the whole time. We had taken Harley and
Ember many years ago and they had done fine, but I had no idea how Penny was
going to be in the car. We made it there without incident (thank you
doggie Xanax!). However, the trip home wasn't as great. Penny
ended up throwing up in the car not even two miles down the road. Twice.
After an hour of cleaning that up, she was fine. Note to self: don't
feed the dogs AT ALL before traveling in the car.
There were dogs everywhere! "Move Dog!" was the most common phrase spoken during the whole trip. There might have been some slight profanity in there too. Yeah.
Harley and Ember were the seniors of the group. They spent most of their days just sunning themselves on the porch. They were only roused if a something worth their time (a cow, deer, or car) came by. The stairs were really hard on Ember (she was hit by a car when she was younger and has a damaged hip and pelvis) and Penny. Poor dogs were beat by the end of the day.
Kelsey and Penny played for hours each day.
Kung Fu Doggies
I had to add this last picture. Every time we turned around Penny would be sitting on the stairs like this. It was really funny.
There is one couple that lives on the mountain year-round, which is very brave considering there have been many times that they have been snowed in for weeks and often the only way to get around in the winter is by snowmobile. This is their amazing house. There are so many cool little details that you can't see in the picture and the inside is like an antique shop. Susan has so many beautiful old things. The building on the left is their bathroom which is almost the same size of the house. The interior is fully finished, ceiling to floor, with river rocks and mortar. The whole property is amazing, complete with a prolific garden, strawberry patch and of course chickens. Noah was in heaven.
My mother-in-law will kill me when she sees this. Haha!
Just outside their fence is the river and their canyon. Noah really wanted to go throw rocks and get dirty exploring. So we spent a good hour hiking the riverbed. Noah almost made it without falling in the water. Almost.
